IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Nia Teppelin (Goes only by ‘Nia’)
Age: 16 years old.
Canon: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Canon Point: Two years after The Fall of Teppelin. So, after episode 15, during the 7 year timeskip before episode 17. Episode 16 is a recap episode, if anyone was curious.
Species: Human
Gender: Female, physically and mentally.
Orientation: She doesn’t really seem to understand sexuality, but she is capable of loving a person very much. Even though her one true love interest is male, it does not appear that it is because of any physical factor, so it seems she doesn’t really have any true preference when it comes to gender or sex.

History: Nia was born as the daughter of The Spiral King, Lordgenome in the palace of Teppelin. She was the final of many children the Spiral King would bear for his own amusement. Forbidden to ever leave and see the outside, she lived a very lavish and comfortable life as a princess. She was pampered and treated well, brought up and taught many lessons in all kinds of areas, including those of physical and athletic nature, as “a part of a princess’ education”.
Over time, she became more self-aware, and finally asked her father why she was born. Lordgenome, who detested such behavior in humans, grew tired of Nia as he had grown tired of her children before her. He cast her out, and demanded she be disposed of. She was placed in a sealed container, and thrown into a ravine to die a silent death. She was saved by Simon and brought back to Dai-Gurren, the walking battleship of Team Dai-Gurren.

She is at first met with hostility and caution after it is revealed that she is the daughter of the Spiral King. However, she shows herself to be completely trustworthy and empathetic of the humans’ fight and desire to live on the surface. She joins the team, wishing to help them and Simon in any way she can, as well as wanting to confront her father, and appoints herself as the team’s cook. She fights alongside the team on their journey.
When they reach Teppelin, she questions her father face to face, only to be denied any real answers. A fight ensues, leading to Lordgenome’s defeat and final warning to them before he falls to his death, much to the shock of Nia. After realizing he is dead, she says her goodbyes. She goes with Team Dai-Gurren to help the humans still underground and to make their own thriving city on the surface.

Appearance: Here!
Personality: Nia is essentially the physical embodiment of optimism and trust. She is an incredibly cheerful and sweet young girl who has everyone’s best interest in mind. She does what she can to help others and to make them happy, even if it can sometimes backfire and end up hurting them. Despite that, she always has good intentions, and never seeks out to hurt others in any way (the only exception being Guame, who she slapped in a moment of horror and disgust). She reacts sweetly and politely to pretty much any person. It seems that unless a person is trying to hurt her or is screaming at her, she will most likely react with a smile on her face, she is just that kind of person. She sees the best in others, and views practically any situation in an optimistic way.
She comes from a very sheltered life, being kept away from the outside world and only taught specific things. Because of this, she is extremely naïve. Even after her travels with Team Dai-Gurren, there is still much she doesn’t know about the world or the people in it, and it is evident by the many questions she can ask. From certain items and customs to phrases and speech, there are many things she still hasn’t learned. She even has a hard time picking up on certain tones unless they are 100% obvious. That being said, she loves to talk to others and learn about these unknown aspects of life, and doesn’t seem to be too scared of the unknown. In fact, during her first moments out of the palace, she encounters a very menacing gunman, but she doesn’t seem very scared of it, even after Simon’s panicked reaction.
A great trait to couple with her amazing naivety is her incredible ability to trust practically anyone. She puts huge amounts of faith into people, and sometimes it can backfire on her. Before being cast out of the Palace, Nia trusted those she came into contact with, but especially her father. She later admits that her father was pretty much “her entire life”, but he only ended up hurting her. As time goes on, though, she makes better judgment calls with Team Dai-Gurren. While Simon is the one she trusts the most, she also places her safety in the hands of others, Yoko being another major case. As she aimed a rifle at Nia’s head, Nia knew to trust her and her skills as an expert, even with bullets passing just inches from her ears. She has an unshakeable belief in her friends, and trusts them with every fiber of her being. Whether it is with lethal weapons pointed at her, being pulled to the bottom of the ocean, or laid beaten in the dirt, she has no trouble being calm in the face of danger, because she knows she can count on her friends to pull through.
She can be very brave, and also very reckless. She does not hesitate to jump into the fray if she feels it is necessary, going out on her own to confront the hell bent Adiane not only once, but twice. She also put herself in danger by going with Simon to confront Lordgenome, but her desire to confront her father seemed to put any fear away. Her bravery can also be connected to her trust. As she was confronted by Guame with a gun pushed to her face, she sternly spoke of her trust in Simon without a single quiver in her voice. There were times when she knew she could not go out herself, but quick and witty thinking allowed her to help out as much as she could, and she used such thinking to save countless lives during a battle with Guame, using a large projection system to put “herself” on the front lines and ask people to calm themselves as people were blindly running into a death trap.
If Team Dai-Gurren had a cheerleader, Nia would be it. She loves her friends and will fight with and for them until her very last breath, all with a smile on her face.
Abilities: She has no super human abilities, but due to her upbringing as a princess, she has a few talents, including incredibly good posture and a high level of athletic prowess. She also has a lil’ bit of a green thumb, as she has been planting flowers on her journeys (to help make the deserted wasteland pretty).
Other: She loves cooking, but she is absolutely terrible at it. Only two beings can stomach her food: Simon and a pigmole named Boota.

SAMPLES

First Person:

You should like yourself! [[ her voice is sweet, but loud compared to her usual volume. She is silent for a moment, before repeating a little softer: ]] You should like yourself.

I do not see why someone as wonderful as you could not like yourself! You say you are sad, and I do not question your reasons, but you have no reason to dislike yourself! You are strong and brave and good! There is so much to like about you. [[ a small frown crosses her face and her eyebrows arch downward ever so slightly.]] Do not doubt your worth. You are worth more than you could imagine!

[[ she is silent once more. she has learned from previous slip-ups that is pays in everyone’s favor to think before speaking in such sensitive moments. she learned just how easy she could hurt others with her words, despite having every good intention. she didn’t want to do that again, not to anyone. ]] But, I cannot make you do what you do not wish to do. That is why… [[ suddenly, a bright smile! ]] I will like you enough for the both of us!

Third Person:

She had never seen so much grass in one place before. In fact, she doubted she had ever seen this much grass, period. Sure, she managed to see little patches of it in her travels, but nothing like this. And that was the most amazing thing to her in this place. The houses were interesting, the cars were shocking, the paved roads left her full of awe, but the one thing she was truly amazed by was the grass, the flora, the scenery, the small pools of green that were everywhere around her made her slack-jawed.

Never one to pass up a chance of hands on experiences, she took a seat on the lawn. It was cool against her legs, and it was a little prickly, but it didn’t hurt her. It didn’t feel like rocks or sand, it didn’t feel like water. It just felt like little hairs, as if the world beneath her was the coolest punk rocker on the block (not that she knew what a punk rocker was).

“How nice,” she placed her hand out and sent it over the surface, the blades of grass sinking and hopping up as her hand moved through them, “It feels so nice! How wonderful!” It was all she could say. Suddenly, she gasped, bringing her hand back. She examined it, holding it up towards the sky. A lone ladybug, having its special blade of grass ruffled and shaken, had fallen onto her hand. And this made her smile all the more.

“What are you, little colorful creature?” she asked to the empty air around her. That was truly her way to go about things. She might be scared, and she might be alone, but there was beautiful grass and tiny spotted friends to meet. There was no reason to cry, but here was plenty reason to take all the beauty in.
